A Widget is a customizable and interactive entry that can be used to create forms and applications designed to support your specific experimental needs. They can include elements such as text boxes, buttons, checkboxes, tables, drop-down menus, and even perform calculations. Each widget can be added as an entry to a page and can be edited by other notebook users.
LabArchives currently includes over 24 built-in widgets designed to support common laboratory tasks and streamline data entry. Among these are several specialized calculator widgets that help automate routine calculations, reducing manual errors and saving time. These include the Acid and Base Molarity Calculator, DNA/RNA Calculator, Molarity Calculator, Radioactivity Calculator, and others. In addition to calculators, built-in widgets also support tasks such as solution preparation, data management planning, and basic laboratory documentation, making it easier to standardize and record a wide range of experimental workflows. Other built-in widgets include our popular Chemical Sketcher, Database and Freezer Box widgets.
The Widget Manager can be used to create and manage interactive custom widgets tailored to specific requirements using a range of elements—all of which can be seamlessly embedded within a LabArchives notebook. The minimum requirements to build custom widgets begin with basic HTML proficiency. View the Creating and Managing Custom Widgets article to learn more about creating a custom widget.
To add a widget to your page, select Widget from the Add Entry Toolbar, then select the widget you’d like to embed.
