The LabArchives Microsoft Office Plugin (MOPI) allows Mac users to integrate LabArchives with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Once installed, you can access, save, and manage your LabArchives files directly from your Office applications—helping streamline your research workflow.
Downloading and Logging In
To get started with the LabArchives Microsoft Office Plugin (MOPI), you’ll need to download, install, and sign in through Microsoft Office.
Download and Install the Microsoft Office Plugin
- Download the installer at the bottom of this article.
- Run the downloaded package to launch setup wizard.
- Click Continue, then Install to begin.
- Once complete, click Close to close the setup.
Log In through Microsoft Office
- Open Microsoft Word, Excel, or PowerPoint.
- From the top macOS File menu, click LabArchives, then select Login to LabArchives.
- Set the server URL to:
https://mynotebook.labarchives-gov.com
- Choose your login method:
- Direct User Login – Sign in using your institution’s Single Sign-On (SSO) in a pop-up window.
- Token for External Authentication – Manually enter a token from your LabArchives account.
Once logged in, you can begin saving and opening files through LabArchives in Office.
Using LabArchives in Microsoft Office
Once logged in, you can save, open, and manage your documents directly within Microsoft Word, Excel, or PowerPoint using the LabArchives options available from the File menu.
Saving a File
From the Word, Excel, or PowerPoint File and LabArchives menu, click Save.
In the Save Files window:
- Select your notebook from the dropdown.
- Expand the folder list and choose a page.
- Add a name to the file, then click OK.
After the initial save, any time you click Save (e.g., using Command + S), a prompt will appear asking if you’d like to upload the changes to LabArchives. Click Yes to confirm.
Each upload updates the revision history of the document in LabArchives.
Opening a File
From the Word, Excel, or PowerPoint File and LabArchives menu, click Open.
In the Open Files window:
- Select your notebook and navigate to the appropriate page.
- View the list of available Word, Excel, or PowerPoint files.
- Select a file and click Open.
If you already have a local version and LabArchives has a newer one, you’ll be prompted to choose which version to open.
Detaching a File
To stop syncing a document with LabArchives, from the Word, Excel, or PowerPoint File and LabArchives menu, click Detach
This removes the connection between the local version and the LabArchives version. Future changes will only be saved locally.
