Tags are a simple yet powerful way to enhance the organization and usability of your Electronic Lab Notebook. By adding tags to your notebook entries, you can:
- Categorize experiments by topic, technique, project, or researcher
- Create consistency with a shared and controlled vocabulary across your team
- Enhance metadata to improve searchability, making your notebook easier to filter, organize, and locate related work
To manage tags, hover over the entry to display the entry toolbar, click the triple-dot menu and select Tags from the dropdown.
Adding and Managing Tags
From the Tags window, a new tag can be created or an existing tag can be added to the entry. Tags are shared across the notebook and notebook members. If a Tag was added to another entry in the notebook, the Tag will be available from the existing tag menu.
If adding a new tag, type in the Add a new tag field and select Add and then Save. At the top of the Tags menu you will see a list of the Tags that have been assigned to the entry.
To use an existing tag click the Add an existing tag dropdown, make your selection, and click Save. To remove a tag from the entry, click the X next to the current tag.
Tags that are applied to an entry are visible just below the timestamp. Clicking on a tag will run a search across your notebook and display any other notebook entries that used the tag—making related work easy to explore.
