LabArchives provides several ways to copy notebook content, from duplicating a single entry to copying full pages and folders across notebooks. These tools help save time allowing you to reuse content and maintain consistency across records. For example, a team can quickly reuse an experiment setup by copying a template page or duplicating a folder from a previous project.
Depending on the amount of data that will be copied, it may take a few minutes to complete. When copying more than 100 entries, a warning message may appear with a request to confirm the action. Once finished, you’ll be returned to the original notebook. Keep in mind that certain properties—such as page locking and revision history—may not carry over, depending on the copy method.
The table below summarizes what is preserved with each copy method:
| Copy Method | Keeps Signed Pages Locked? | Keeps Original Revision History & Timestamps? |
|---|---|---|
| Duplicate Page or Folder | ❌ | New timestamp by copying member |
| Copy Existing Page | ❌ | New timestamp by copying member |
| Duplicate Folder | ❌ | New timestamp by copying member |
| Copy to Another Notebook | ✅ | ✅ |
| Copy from Another Notebook | ✅ | ✅ |
| Copy Entry | N/A | New timestamp by copying member |
To copy an entire notebook, use the Clone Notebook feature available through the Notebook Manager.
Duplicate Page or Folder
To duplicate a page or folder, hover over the item, right-click, and select Duplicate. The copy will appear directly below the original.
When duplicating a page, a prompt will appear asking whether to include attachments in the copy.
Copy Existing Page
The Copy Existing Page feature creates new content by copying one or more entries from a page within the current notebook. To choose where the new page will appear, right-click the target folder in the Notebook Navigator or click +New within that folder and select Copy Existing Page.
In the Select a page to copy from window, choose the source page.
A second window will then display a checklist of all entries on that page. Select the entries to copy, then click Create Page.
Copy To Another Notebook
The Copy To Another Notebook feature allows you to seamlessly copy a page or folder to another Notebook. While viewing the notebook you want to copy out of, right-click any page or folder and select Copy To Another Notebook.
Choose the destination notebook, then select a specific folder or create a new folder or page. The Copy To section will update based on your selection.
Copy from Another Notebook
The Copy from Another Notebook feature lets you copy content from one notebook into another. Click +New, then select Copy from Another Notebook.
Choose the notebook you'd like to copy content from. Then, select whether you want to copy an entire folder or just a single page.
Copy Entry
To copy a single entry on a page, hover over the entry you want to copy. When the menu options appear, click the triple-dot menu and select Copy.
After clicking Copy, a window titled How to paste your entry will appear with instructions. Click OK to continue. You can also check Don’t show me this message again if you prefer not to see the instructions each time.
To paste the copied entry, go to the page where you want to place it. You can either click the +New button at the top right of the page and select Copied Entry, or hover over the page until the Insert Flag appears. Click the Insert Flag, then click More, and choose Copied Entry. The copied entry will be added to the selected location.
