Many funding agencies—such as the NSF, NIH, RCUK, and ERC—require grant recipients to submit data management plans and make portions of their project data publicly accessible. LabArchives supports these compliance efforts by enabling organizations to share data via public URLs, providing a simple and effective way to offer open access when needed.
If your organization supports public sharing of LabArchives data and has enabled this feature, users with the role of Notebook Owner, Account Administrator, or Notebook Administrator can generate a public link by selecting the option Allow anyone to view – Publicly accessible to anyone on the internet in their Share dialog. This generates a link that allows anyone with the URL to view the shared data—no LabArchives account required.
As a general rule, the recipient of the link will have access to the shared item and all content beneath it in the notebook’s hierarchy. For example, if you share a link to a folder, the user will be able to access everything contained within that folder, including all subpages and entries.
LabArchives provides additional tools to help meet data sharing requirements, such as the ability to create a DOI and publishing data to Figshare.
